Spotnick is an example of a successful knowledge transfer from research to a social media app. It combines the output of several research projects concerning location-based services, location-triggered code execution, energy saving strategies for location sensors, etc. and visualizes home locations, posts and live movements of Facebook friends. It Automatically posts a message to a user’s Facebook wall when he arrives at Spots that he defined. The app is running in the background without draining battery.
