Open research position within the research project “Quantum Algorithm Engineering: Bridging the Gap to Industrial Applications” funded by FFG Austria.

The Institute of Business Informatics – Software Engineering @ JKU Linz has an open research position within the research project “Quantum Algorithm Engineering: Bridging the Gap to Industrial Applications” funded by FFG Austria. The goal of this research project is to enable companies to translate the problems of their domain into executable quantum computing solutions. Each of the involved partner institutions will focus on a distinct aspect of this grand challenge with potential collaboration possibilities between the different partners. Our focus at BISE is to explore novel concepts, techniques, and methods to enhance the engineering of quantum algorithms as software systems.

The successful candidate will conduct research on novel software engineering concepts, methods, and techniques for developing hybrid quantum/classical software systems. The candidate will also have the opportunity to perform a PhD thesis within the scope of the project.

Research Topics of Interest (but not limited to):

  • Specification of Hybrid Quantum/Classical Programs
  • Synthesis of Hybrid Quantum/Classical Programs
  • AI-supported deployment pipelines for quantum software
  • Advancing Software Engineering Methodologies (AI-driven Software Engineering, Model-based Software Engineering, …)

Desired Expertise:

  • We seek candidates with a master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, AI, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience in software engineering is required.
  • Experience in quantum computing platforms, quantum programming languages, and quantum algorithms is desirable.

Position Details:

  • Start Date: Early 2026
  • Duration: The contract will be initially for 1 year, with the expectation of renewal for a total of 4 years.
  • Salary: approx. EUR 2,785.00/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week

Application Procedure:
