Mechatronic Objects are a promising approach in order to cope with the rising complexity in engineering but seem to be not widely spread yet. This article presents key results of a survey among experts from engineering and academia concerning the state and future of the concept of mechatronic objects. Besides expected benefits and challenges arising from Mechatronic Objects, the evolution of selected characteristics of Mechatronic Objects is pointed out based on relevance and expected scheduling. An essential finding of the survey is that the benefits of Mechatronic Objects are widely recognized and their implementation is expected in some years.
