By combining data analysis, prediction, and control automation, Digital Twins (DTs) are about to become a technological backbone in industrial applications. So far, most DT engineering research focused on architectural and communication aspects, with limited attention to lifecycle aspects including software development and deployment. In this paper, we present an approach for systematic deployment of software using the widely used Asset Administration Shell (AAS) industry standard. Our solution specifies software as skills that can be flexibly (un)deployed and allows to store deployment metadata in a history. We present our solution as AAS submodel template, a prototype implementation building on open source software and describe a reproducible use case to show our approach’s feasibility.
